Again Western Province topped the medals table with 113 gold, 74 silver and 67 bronze medals, while South (33 gold, 29 silver, 43 bronze medals) and Central (28 gold, 38 silver, 41 bronze medals) provinces were the second and third in the overall medals table of the 42nd National Sports Festival ended at the Durayappa Stadium in Jaffna on Sunday (02).


The Western Province won the overall championship for the 18th consecutive time, with a total of 254 medals.

A total of four Sri Lanka records and three new meet records were established during the three-day meet.


Southern Province’s K.S.L. Wickremasinghe who finished with a time of 10.6 seconds in the Men’s 100m event was adjudged the fastest athlete at the competition.

S.L. Vidanadurage of Western Province, who recorded a time of 11.9 seconds in women’s 100m was named the fastest female athlete.

M.I.M. Miswan of Eastern Province who won the Men’s Long Jump with a leap of 7.2m was adjudged the best sportsman.

Nimali Liyanaarachchi who set a new Sri Lanka record in the women’s 800m was adjudged the best sportswoman.

The closing ceremony was held on 02nd Sunday under the patronage of His Excellency the President Maithripala Sirisena.
