
Central Province Table Tennis Championship for The Prime Minister’s Challenge Trophy
Kingswood seal the limelight
Kingswood College Kandy won 7 boy’s titles and Hilwood Girl’s College Kandy won 4 girl’s titles of the Central Province Table Tennis Championship for the “Prime Minister’s Challenge Trophy” at Jagath Rajapaksa International Table Tennis Stadium on recently (Sunday). The tournament was conducted by Kandy District Table Tennis Association.
Approximately 15 girls schools and 14 boys schools took part in the tournament comprising of 110 teams in A, B, C, D , and E divisions in under 10,12 15 and 18 age groups.
It is praiseworthy to mention that highest number of players were from lesser privileged schools in Central Province in spite of the heavy rains, floods with landslides occur in the region during this period. Presence of players from “Lanka Kids” project was seen as the dedication of teacher coaches as well as parents and players of the lesser-privileged schools in the province.
A Video presentation of the activities done by KDTTA in the past year which attracted all the players, parents and well wishers shows the enthusiasm of the committee of KDTTA to develop the game not only in Central Province but also in the whole country.
Mr.Anuradha Jayaratne, president of KDTTA and the private secretary to the prime minister gives the fullest support to do this honorary work to KDTTA committee. His donation of six tables to lesser-privileged schools along with the equipment support from ITTF through a youth project of UNDSOP done by Sahanaka Ganegoda had been an immense help and encouragement to the team KDTTA. The support received by Hon. Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Sports Minister, and Education department in Central Province was praiseworthy.
Several newly qualified ITTF/PTT Level 1 coaches, Ms. Tamara Hewage, Ms.Asha Wijeratne, Ms. Dimuthu Gamage, Ms. Nadeeka Delpitiya, Mr. W.G. Jayantha, Mr. V.K.Hewahe, Mr. Sudesh Palihawadene, Mr.Shenal Dilruksha received their certificates from the chief guest at the function.
