Chamika Perera shines at chess Olympiad

Former Sri Lankan national champion, Chamika Perera beat the Venezuelan FIDE Master (FM), Andres Vargas during in the fifth round of the ongoing 41st Chess Olympiad in Norway on Wednesday.

The old Trinitian played on board three defeated the FM who has got 2318 points in FIDE ratings in comparison to Perera’s 2081 which gave Sri Lanka a real hope of recording their first victory as a team against top side, however with Prasanna Kurukulasuriya on board one and the national champion Isuru Alahakoon on board three losing, Sri Lanka missed out on that.

The team captain G.C Anurudda continued to impress at Olympiad with another draw on board two against International Master, Juan Rohl which saw Sri Lanka ending the round with a defeat of 1.5-2.5.
