Kusal Mendis and Angelo Mathews have fought hard with the bat on day four at the Basin Reserve, registering Sri Lanka’s highest ever partnership against the BLACKCAPS in Tests while batting the entire day.

The visitors started the day on 20/3, still a further 276 runs required to make the BLACKCAPS bat again.

Mendis and Mathews showed patience and poise at the crease, taking on the short ball while looking relatively untroubled by the BLACKCAPS attack.

Just after the tea break Mendis passed triple figures, the sixth time he has achieved the milestone in Test match cricket.

Mathews followed suit an hour later, the former captain whipping a ball through to the mid wicket boundary, bring up his century to generous applause from the Basin Reserve bank.
