“Degradation of other sports will start soon” – Minister Arjuna Ranatunga

“Degradation of other sports will start soon” – Minister Arjuna Ranatunga

Minister of Petroleum Resources Development Arjuna Ranatunga stated that continuation of negligence of cricket management will cause to degrade other sports as well. He made this statement during the visit to Mahanayaka Theros of the Asgiriya and Malwaththa chapters, yesterday. Responding the query arose by a journalist that whether the cabinet paper was rejected which was presented to offer jobs to national level sportsmen in CPC, he approved that and stated he has fulfilled his responsibility. He also added that he presented the cabinet paper on the basis of the cabinet paper presented by Ex Sports Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara to offer government recruitment to national level sportsmen.

“I do not disclose the discussions in the cabinet. A newspaper has published that it has thrown out. Cabinet has disapproved it. I fulfilled my responsibility. There should be a procedure to protect sportsmen in rural areas. When we played Petroleum and Ports have offered job opportunities to sportsmen. Ex Sports minister presented a cabinet paper to obtain the permissions to offer government recruitments to national level cricketers. I have presented the cabinet paper and I have fulfilled my responsibility. You better ask more details from the Cabinet spokesman” Minister stated. He also added that there should be a stable procedure to save sportsmen.

“There are national level sportsmen who are jobless. Sri Lanka got popular around the world, because of cricket. Minister of Sports just need to watch cricket rather than consider about other sports. We were in high ranks even now are in lower ranks. Sri Lanka is lower than Afghanistan in T20 rankings” He added further.
