Dinesh Chandimal Assumed Duties at Sri Lanka Army

Former all format Sri Lankan cricket captain Dinesh Chandimal assumed duty at the Sri Lankan Army Volunteer Force of the Sri Lankan Army Ordnance Corps as a commissioned officer yesterday.

Chandimal enlisted in the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force as a commissioned officer with major rank.

According to the Army Cricket Committee, he will be enlisted in the Sri Lankan Army Volunteer Force of the Sri Lankan Army Ordnance Corps.

Maj. Dinesh Chandimal will join with cricket squad of the Sri Lankan Army and will play for domestic cricket season in future.

Chandimal was the main member of the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 runner-up squad and the first official captain of 2014 winning team of ICC World Twenty20. He led Sri Lanka in first group stage of the 2014 ICC World Twenty20, until was suspended for slow over rate and subsequently lost the place in the team for the remainder of the tournament.

Following the resigning of Angelo Mathews as the Sri Lanka Cricket team captain from the all formats, Dinesh Chandimal was appointed as the 15th Test Captain in 2017.  He was appointed as the 17th ODI captain in 2013 and captained T20s in 2013-2016 and 2018.

Dinesh Chandimal was the first captain to lead Sri Lanka in their first day-night Test match and guided to win against Pakistan in UAE in 2017.
