One of Sri Lanka’s prolific run-scorer, a shrewd thinker of the game a sharp fielder and most-tactful all format captain, Mahela has represented Sri Lanka in 448 ODIs, 149 Tests and 55 T20Is while affecting a staggering 440 caught dismissals in the field. Mahela Jayawardena will play captain’s role while Kumar Sangakkara will enter the tournament as the vice-captain.

With a combined 2875 runs in 111 T20Is for Sri Lanka, Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara are two of the best cricketers sri Lanka has ever produced and guided to win Sri Lanka’s first ever ICC T20I world cup in 2014.

In the list of 11 players including four substitute players, only five 1996 cricketing legends managed to secure their places, while ten players from 2014 ICC T20I World Champions squad were included.
