“Where did the Sports Minister bring S.44 from” – Arjuna Ranatunga

“Where did the Sports Minister bring S.44 from” – Arjuna Ranatunga

Minister of Petroleum Resources Development Arjuna Ranatunga stated that President did not blame him as newspapers reported. He says that it will defame the name of the president.

” I do not disclose the discussions in the cabinet. But i must reply to this. Cabinet Co- speaker Rajitha Senarathne also stated that President did not blame me. This news was published by a newspaper which relate to gamblers. This was not defamed my name, but president’s name. I don’t think President would make a such statement. This is a fake news. Political orphans who do not have vote basis create fake news. They need to gain positions entering by back door. They have black money earned by gambling. That’s why they defeated in the last election” Minister Ranatunga stated during a poya day programme held at Weliweriya, today.

Responding a journalist, he stated that ” I identified vague paragraphs in a cabinet paper presented by Minister of Sports Faizer Musthapa. Even i have not studied law as much as him, i tried to explain the vagueness. But some ministers who depend on gamblers created a unnecessary situation”

Q: Media reports that Competent Authority have appointed under S.44. But in the Sports Law there’s no S.44?

Yes. That is what i tried to explain in the cabinet. But i can’t teach law to a Presidential council. There’s a S. 44 in his law. As i know, these no S.44 and We have find out S.44.

Q: It means learned Minister Faizer Musthapa has mistaken or unaware of the law?

He might have bought an act from a drawer of a gambler. To be honest, during the previous regime, Former Minister Mahindananda Aluthagamage did not allow gamblers to enter into cricket management. I really appreciate his action. Cricket is degrading because of the people who entered by back door.

Q: Is Sports Law changeable as others want?

I think so. I’m still looking that whether S.44 is a hidden clause. Even Minister Faizer Musthapa could not find me that clause.

Q: Will Minister Musthapa create a crisis as in the LG election?

Let’s see what will happen. I can not do anything. I request from Minister Musthapa to show me S.44
