Champions League : Real Madrid off to a flyer

The defending champions Real Madrid got off to a flying start when they outclassed FC Basel to a crushing 5-1 in their Champions League opener worked off in Santigo Bernbue yesterday.

Basel faulted inside first 10 minutes with an own goal which followed a flurry of goals from the hosts. G Bale scored a goal before setting up C Ronaldo and a goal from the new signing James Rodriguez set an astonishing half time score of 4-1. The French striker Karim Benzema scored the fifth of the night for the Spanish giants later in the second half.

The runners up of the 2013 Competition Dortmund meanwhile recorded a 2-0 win over Arsenal.
