Petes in command

Petes in command

Following a great spell at the recently concluded Kotmale CHOX Under-19 tournament, St. Peter’s College Bambalapitiya are giving their all in the ongoing Under-17 Inter-Schools Football Championships organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association.

Thirty Six teams took part in their region and St. Peter’s have emerged on top by overthrowing some of the fancied teams in Colombo.

In the semi-finals of the group matches, St. Peter’s beat the much fancied Zahirians from Colombo 1 goal to nil, sending them packing home.

Afam Akram scored the solitary goal through the award of a free kick, to give the Peterites a memorable win.

In the final match of the Group, the Peterites met Arethusa College, Wellawatta, and beat them comprehensively by 5 goals to nil.

The scores were 2–0 at half time in favour of the Peterites. Dananjaya De Silva played brilliantly and scored 3 goals while Johan Wickremasinghe and Niresh Sundharraj scored a goal each.

St. Peter’s now moves on to the next stage where 24 teams each topping their groups, from other regions across the country have been selected to play in the knockouts.

The Peterite Under-17 team is coached by Isuru Perera (Head Coach) and Mohamed Azwar (Goal-Keeper Coach).
