Sporting Stars Honoured at the 4th SLT SILK Sports Awards 2018 Stars Honoured at the 4th SLT SILK Sports Awards 2018

This year’s 4th SLT SILK Sports Awards took place in Colombo – BMICH on Friday evening. The awards acknowledge local sporting heroes who have excelled in their respective sporting fields during the year 2018.

The annual SLT Silk Sports Awards Ceremony 2018 organized by and sponsored by Sri Lanka Telecom for the fourth year in succession was held on November 30, evening at the BMICH with Minister of Provincial Councils, Local Government and Sports Honorable Faiszer Musthapa gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. SLT Chairman – Mr. P. G. Kumarasinghe, SLT CEO – Mr. K. A. Kitthi Perera, 1996 Cricket legend Mr. Aravinda de Silva & Mr. Hashan Tillekeratne were among the other distinguished guests present on this occasion.









A veteran national coach Yogananda Wijesundara has been recognized with a prestigious SLT SILK Lifetime Achievements Award at the SILK Awards in Colombo – BMICH.

The SLT SILK Lifetime Achievement Awards, given every year to one sports personality, is an initiative of the SILK Jury to recognise the important role models play in supporting athletes on the road to their sporting dreams.


Kumar Sangakkara – one of the greatest brightest, most perceptive characters in the game players of the modern era – is also recognised as the ‘Duncan White Sports Excellence & Contribution’ award winner.

International Cricketing hero Lasith Malinga named ‘Most Popular Sports Personality of the Year’ and took his first People’s Choice award during his 15 years’ career at the prestigious 4th SLT SILK Sports Awards night.


Sri Lanka’s promising weight lifter, Indika Dissanayake won the ‘Outstanding Sports Personality of the year for his silver medal win at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year, while Hasitha Boyagoda named as the Outstanding School Sports Personality of the year, following his world record 191 against Kenya at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in New Zealand in January.


Sri Lanka national Carrom teams shine at the glamourous night bagged two major awards and a special jury medal at the SILK Awards. The Men’s Carrom team named as the Men’s Team of the Year, following their 1st Carrom World Cup win in the city of Chuncheon, South Korea in August while the Chamil Cooray named as the Carrom Player of the year following his personal best performances during this year.


Commonwealth Games 45-48kg weight class Women’s Boxing, Bronze medalist, Anusha Kodithuwakku was named the ‘Boxer of the Year’ where she was becoming the first female boxer who wins a commonwealth medal for Sri Lanka.


Para Sports Personality of the Year award went to Amila Prashan while the Woman Team of the Year award went to Sri Lanka Netball team, who have won the Asia Cup and qualified for the 2019 Netball World Cup at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England.


The fearless and passionate sports editor, S. R. pathiravithane from Sunday Times was recognized as the ‘Outstanding Contributor to Sports Journalism’, while the ‘Electronic, Social & Digital Media Programme’ award was taken by SIRASA Inside Sports.


The SLT SILK Sports Awards aim to recognize and appreciate the sports starts and sports personalities,teams who have excelled both in local and international competitions on and off the field from 1 Dec 2017 until 1 November 2018.
