Namal Rajapaksa, Minister of Youth and Sports inaugurated the Fonterra’s Monthly Nutrition Allowance of Rs. 25,000 for 60 High Performance Athletes today (02) at Torrington.
Selection competitions will be held through each of the sports associations and 60 athletes representing a high pool of talent in athletics, weightlifting, boxing, judo, badminton, swimming and para sports.
Under the guidance of Minister Namal Rajapaksa, the Ministry of Sports, the Department of Sports Development and the National Sports Council are implementing a short term, medium term and long term program to uplift sports in our country.
This nutritional allowance is offered after identifying the nutritional needs of athletes and obtaining appropriate advice on the recommendation of a qualified nutritionist.
Fonterra has offered to donate around Rs. 25,000 / – per player per month to the Department of Sports Development financially for all 60 players throughout the year.
Through this project, which is being implemented in a planned manner, the Ministry of Sports plans to strengthen the sportsmen and sportswomen not only at the professional level but also at the nutritional level and make our country a sport of gold.
Minister of State Shehan Semasinghe, Director General of the Department of Sports Development Amal Edirisuriya, Chairman of the National Sports Council High Identity Athlete Recognition Committee Sanjeewa Wickramanayake, Member of the National Sports Council Yashwant Muththettuwagama and officials of Fonterra were also present on the occasion.
